Summer Running Goals

Hello everyone. Happy Friday!!

I have been sliiiiightly MIA for a few weeks now. Either I am too busy or having too much fun to blog, or I am struggling with eating and really don’t feel like blogging. Please forgive me!

A week ago I was on a Disney Caribbean cruise! My sister has all the pictures- but I will share some when I get my hands on them. Smile It was amazing, to say the least.

 

GUYS AUGUST FIRST AHH COLLEGE APPS AHHHHH

Pushing that out of my mind, today I completed my last running goal for the summer!
I wanted to

1. Run under 25 minutes for a 3 mile time trial

2. Complete the 9 mile loop at the local forest preserve (I actually wrote down 10 miles, I thought it was a ten mile loop!)

The first goal I actually completed on the cruise! Weird, right?? I tried to keep up with running by doing laps on the track on the boat, which worked pretty well. I ran with a cute guy a few days too which didn’t hurt Winking smile

There was a 5k on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island (!!) one morning, so of course I signed up!
It wasn’t too hot, but it was kind of humid, and as soon as the clock started, it POURED. The kind of rain where you can barely see in front of you and your shoes go Squish Squish with every step.

That was a MEMORABLE experience. I was running by myself, and I wanted to PR, since my 5k record was like 26 minutes or something.  I had kind of given up with the rain, but I tried to push through it! I guess I did because I ended with a time of 24:45! Not too shabby considering the rain and all. I’m really hoping that without the extra .1 I will be able to run under 24 for a 3 mile time trial in 2 weeks Smile

 

So today I completed the second goal! The 9 mile loop!

We added a mile at the end, because, well, when you are thaaaaaaaaaaaat close to double digits….

We went out to breakfast afterwards. I mean running ten miles deserves a good breakfast. I got lemon raspberry crepes. MMMMMM.

Crepes may be my favorite restaurant breakfast food.

 

 

Anyways, I’ve got a lot to do today! A long night at work and volunteering and running errands and starting college stuff (EVERYTHING STARTS TODAY!)

April Goals

Hello everyone. I’ve been kind of nonexistent in the blog world. I’ve just had a lot going on in life! I’m not sure I’m in too great of a place right now, and I need to figure a few things out.

 

Let’s look at what I wanted to do in March.

1. Break 7:30 in the mile.

2. Actually go to a Yoga class

3. Focus on loving myself. This means less calorie counting, more acceptance, making sleep a higher priority, and practicing yoga!

 

1. & 2. were checked off my list. I talked about them in my last post! Smile

but 3? Oh 3. Not so much. I was doing really well at the point I got that mile time earlier in March. But somehow things took a turn for the worst.

 

 

In April, my goal is simply to love myself. I have other things I want too, like keeping up my 4.0 and breaking 6:45 in the mile, etc, but I know that right now I just need to focus on me.

To me, that means the same as it did earlier: but a big emphasis on the food part. I need to get to an okay place with food, and stress less.

 

 

Other random news?

I visited St. Louis over break!

 

I went to SLU and didn’t care for it, and then I visited Truman State and LOVED IT (even though I would need to be much much faster to run on their team). They have an awesome Communication Sciences & Disorders department with a brand new clinic and a therapy dog!! Smile Later I visited Augustana and didn’t care for it. I think every Junior in America went on college visits over break, haha Smile 

 

I sprained my toe. Yeah, it’s as stupid as it sounds. A 10 pound weight fell on my toe and… yeah. No running until Tuesday for me.

I may have gotten a job at a new Frozen Yogurt place opening near my house. I got the callback interview and it went pretty well.. I think! I should get a call this weekend. Honestly the idea of a job really stresses me out but this would be the perfect job for me so I’m hoping for the best!!

 

Aaaand I already miss running. I’m just glad it’s only four days.

Monday Miles #5

Happy Monday!!

Despite the Spring Forward time change, I actually had a pretty great Monday.

Until a doctor’s appointment and some other triggering stuff but let’s not focus on the bad. Smile

Yay!! Time for….

Last week’s workouts:

Monday: 41 minutes, 4.24 miles total, 2.2 at tempo. Pretty decent run to start off the week. We also did 4x 250m strides and weight lifting.

Tuesday: 56 minutes, 5.37 miles. A beautiful longer run! Smile + 10 minutes of abs and 4x 60m Strides

Wednesday: Workout- 1 lap track repeats- I loved this one because I’m pretty fast at these and I beat coach’s recommended times EVERY time. Open-mouthed smile + Weight lifting (upped the weights and felt it the next day!)

Thursday: ~56 minutes, 5.5ish miles. Satellite finding probs. + Core

Friday:  Easy run!! 30 minutes easy (ended up being like 3.4 miles and 36 minutes, oops!) and 4x 200m strides.

Saturday: 58 minutes, 5.57 miles. This was a trek, not a run. There was a ton of snow and ice on the route (we were supposed to do 6 but had to modify the route). Also my blood sugar kept going low so I had to walk a few times to eat a fruit leather. twice. My stomach didn’t like that. Oh well, it was a good long run with a great friend! We did 6 minutes of core and deeeeepppp stretching after.

Sunday: Rest! (duh). I did 10 minutes of yoga.

Mileage: right around 28 miles- Wowza!

Reflection: This was a crazy week as far as running- that milage!! I am so proud of it though, and especially of my paces on some of those long runs. A few months ago I couldn’t keep up a 10:20 pace for 3 miles and now I can do it for 5.5 in bad conditions. I know I’m not fast but at least I’m getting faster Winking smile My feet are tired though!

This week’s workouts:

Today: Rest day. Yes, two rest days in a row. No, I don’t care. I’ll probably do a quick yoga routine before I go to bed though. Smile

Tuesday: Practice (easy run!)

Wednesday: JV invite. I am running the mile. I’m going for my March Goal here Winking smile

Thursday-Saturday: Whatever coach says! Smile

Goal: Break 8:00 in the mile!! <—Secretly I really want to break 7:00 but I’m terrified of saying that and not being able to do it.

Here goes nothing… Break 7:00 in the mile!!

Monday Miles #4

 

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you had a great day. Mine was not too shabby- I got an 86% on a math test I thought I failed, won a training plan from @maddysmith__ on instagram, and had a great tempo run.

 

I’ve been really bad about blogging. I know. I swear someday I’ll be able to post as often as I want. Someday I’ll have free time!! Smile I would rather it be this way. I have a busy life and I love staying busy and doing things and seeing people. It makes me happy. I’m glad I can come back to blogging and it doesn’t have to be a stressor for me. Thank you to each and every one of you who reads my posts even though I am totally terrible at consistency when it comes to blogging (and even commenting once and a while). I always read each of your guys’ posts even if I don’t comment on them all!!

Last week’s workouts:

Monday: Tempo run! 46 minutes, 4.68 miles, plus a half mile my garmin didn’t have satellites for. We also did weights. Upped the reps!

Tuesday: 35:24, 3.89 miles. This was supposed to be easy pace but all the girls my speed were gone so I had to run faster to keep up with another group. I ended up behind them the whole run. Then 10 minutes abs and 2x 250m strides.

Wednesday-Friday: Nothing! I had my leadership retreat which left ZERO time for running. 100% worth it.

Saturday: After getting back at 9:30, I got up at 6 to run the 2 mile race in an invite. It didn’t go so well. I felt sick and my stomach was bothering me. However, I did reach my goal (to not be last) which was very surprising considering my time was pretty bad (15:24…. I was hoping for sub-15). Nobody was counting my laps so I felt like I was running aimlessly. It was awkward.

Sunday: Rest! (duh).

Reflection: This was a short week. That is all.

This week’s workouts:

Monday: Tempo run. ~41 minutes, 4.25 miles. 2.2 at tempo. Then we had weights. Upped the weight!

Tuesday-Friday: track practice!

Saturday: No meet, it’s a varsity invite, so practice.

Goal: My goal is simply to get my blood sugars under control. After Snowball, the leadership event, things just got crazy. I had to eat unhealthy food the whole time there and it really messed up my blood sugars Sad smile Gotta get back on track! My body needs to settle back into its routine.

 

This week I pinky promise I will have a February recap and March goals post up. I’m catching up on all your posts now- I can’t wait to read everything I’ve missed over the past 4/5 days!

Weekend Recap, Runs, and Streaking

Happy Tuesday!! Everyone at school was saying today is basically Friday, since we are officially on Thanksgiving break. Smile

 

This weekend was the leadership retreat I went to called Snowball. I had a wonderful time! I got to meet so many inspiring people and my small group got really close. I’m going to try out for a leadership position for the next outing. I left early Friday morning and came back late Saturday night.

This weekend I ate tons of Spaghetti Squash. After I cut the thing up. It seriously took my mom and me 20 minutes of struggling to cut the thing in half to cook it. Any advice on making it easier?? Open-mouthed smile

 

 

I also tried something new: Making my own Salad Dressing! Smile

 

I used the recipe for a lemon vinaigrette from 100 Days of Real Food’s facebook page.

The verdict? Delicious. I love how easy it was to make. I’ll be making dressing again. No more buying for this girl.. At least for now Winking smile

Sunday, I had been planning to run, since I have a 5k on Thanksgiving morning. However, I woke up to this kind of weather….

Ummmm 12 degrees?? No way I was going outside! I waited until 1:00 to see if it would really warm up.

I had plenty to do, though! I had a crazy amount of homework. I feel like I worked all day and still didn’t finish everything! Sad smile At least I had Andrew to help me with math. Pre-Calc will be the death of me. Why am I taking Pre-Calc if I’m not planning on taking calculus…

Anyway, 1:00 rolled around and it was 22 degrees so I decided to put on my big girl pants and run. I couldn’t feel my fingers or toes until the 2nd mile, but once I got going it felt good. I had planned on doing 3 but ended up doing a little bit over four. Nice and easy pace in the cold.

I realized about halfway through my run that it had been 3 weeks since I last ran at all! I had my break for the year, haha. Not even going to feel guilty. I know I’ll get back into shape soon. Winter running starts January 9th. In addition to that..

 

I am going to go Streaking! I think I want to do the Runner’s World Holiday Running streak. It’s basically a mile each day between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. (Since I’m going on a band trip to New Orleans, I may make it Christmas instead.) I was inspired by Instagram:

Anyway, I’m off to see my cousin from Indiana and then to write a 4 page paper on the Rhetoric of The Things They Carried… It’s due tomorrow at midnight. Thanks technology. If I lived before internet it would have to be due Monday…
